For a non technical person, it truly is difficult to select between plasma and a LCD TV. With the number of TVs being released weekly and the technology being upgraded with every new model, a common man would be banging his head on the walls when it comes to making a decision. Honestly, both of the types of TVs offer more or less the same experience. The difference lies in the technology of both the TVs and it should be well understood before making a decision. Let’s start off discussing the difference between both the technologies… Plasma technology basically has plasma gas cells which are charged up to give out light and form an image whereas in LCD technology uses liquid crystal solution to form the picture but they do not produce light. Light is produced by a backup source of LED. This is the reason why Plasma TV has much better contrast, colors and offers much better viewing angles. So which one to select? Well if you can spend more than a $1000 then you can either buy an LCD HDTV or a Plasma HDTV and both would offer a great viewing experience. However, if you have limited budget and you want to make a choice then a Plasma TV is much better. LCD TVs are slim and are attractive but the viewing experience is better of Plasma TVs. Even a cheap Plasma TV can offer a good viewing experience but a cheap LCD TV cannot. High budget LCD TVs are no doubt good but the low budget ones are really bad. So for a person who is on a budget, it’s always better to go for a Plasma TV. If you have space constraint or for some reason you want a flat TV to fix on the wall or something then you can go for a flat screen Plasma TV. Again, LCD HDTVs are great and so are the Plasma HDTVs but they are quite expensive. The plus point Plasma TVs have over LCD TVs is that they have stronger contrasts and colors and the picture is not affect by the lights around. LCD TVs come with viewing angles ratio and a mediocre LCD TV might not be suitable under heavy lights. For a non technical person it’s better to opt for Plasma TVs instead of being confused with stuff like viewing angles, contrast ratio, etc. which are associated with LCD TVs.
